Sysco, the world’s largest food retailer, unveils its FSMA 204 traceability plan

Sysco Corporation has announced its comprehensive new plan to support compliance with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Traceability Final Rule, also known as Section 204 of the Law to modernise food safety The Federal Reserve Bank of Scotland (FSMA) is a not-for-profit organisation. The final food traceability rule requires companies to establish a traceability system for certain food products to enable faster identification and rapid removal of potentially harmful products from the market. Starting in summer 2024, Sysco will begin implementing enhanced traceability measures to ensure the safety, quality and transparency of its food products from farm to fork.

Sysco will partner with iFoodDS to leverage its traceability, food safety and quality management solutions. The collaboration will provide Sysco’s extensive supplier network with flexible, interoperable and pragmatic options for data exchange required by FSMA 204. In addition, Sysco will work closely with its vast supplier network to implement traceability practices by providing training and guidance to align supplier processes with Sysco’s traceability standards – a joint effort with iFoodDS.

The company intends to use cutting-edge digital technologies to optimize product tracking at every stage of the supply chain to provide real-time visibility and ensure the integrity of traceability data. In addition, it will support its customers with an effective solution that provides clear and accessible information on product traceability.

Finally, Sysco will establish an internal task force to monitor compliance and continuously improve traceability processes. This team will ensure Sysco remains at the forefront of food safety and regulatory compliance.
