Tallahassee State College warns students of “shooter situation”

Tallahassee State College is urging its students to seek shelter after a shooting may have occurred near campus, according to college officials.

At 3:30 p.m., the college posted an alert that a “dangerous situation” had been reported off campus near Appleyard Drive: “Seek safe shelter immediately and stand by for further instructions,” the TSC wrote.

TSC officials told the Tallahassee Democrat they heard there was a “shooting” and there was a large police presence, but they did not have further details as of Wednesday afternoon.

The college said it received a report from the Consolidated Dispatch Agency shortly before 3:30 p.m. about an “incident at an apartment complex near the main campus.”

“The curfew remains in place on the main campus,” TSC said. “Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.”

According to Leon County Schools spokesman Chris Petley, the Lively Technical College campus on Appleyard Drive is also cordoned off.

Tallahassee police did not immediately have further details about the incident.
