Tampa International Airport, Airside D: Construction Update

Tampa International Airport (TPA) has announced some cool new details about its upcoming terminal, taking a big step in the airport’s ongoing expansion and keeping it up to date. Set to drive a large portion of TPA’s future growth, the new terminal is designed to improve the passenger experience, increase traveler traffic, and maintain TPA’s status as one of the best airports in the country.

The terminal will feature world-class amenities designed to enhance passenger comfort and convenience. It is the newest airport area TPA has built in 20 years and comes just in time as the airport adapts to growth in Tampa Bay. TPA has stated that they serve 25 million passengers annually and plan to increase that number by another 10 million over the next 10 years. Highlights of the new airport area include expanded security checkpoints that will streamline the screening process and reduce wait times. The terminal will also feature a diverse range of restaurants and shops featuring local brands, giving travelers a taste of what Tampa is all about before they even depart.

The new terminal will be 55,000 sqm and two stories high. Airside D will have two lounges, 16 gates and a shuttle. The new layout, along with some advanced technologies, will create a fantastic new travel experience for domestic and international flights. This new addition will cost a whopping $1.5 billion to build.

Construction on the terminal will begin soon and completion is expected in the next few years, with a target date of 2028. As Tampa continues to grow as a business and tourist destination, the new terminal will play a large role in the development of the Tampa region and ensure that Tampa International Airport remains a premier location for travelers from around the world.
