Teaser for “Yellowstone” Season 5, Part 2 released after Kevin Costner’s exit

Teaser for “Yellowstone” Season 5, Part 2 released after Kevin Costner’s exit

“Yellowstone” is coming back soon. The Paramount Network series has released a first teaser for the long-awaited second half of season 5.

Taylor Sheridan’s popular Paramount Network series, which aired repeatedly on CBS, first aired in 2018 and has since become a cable phenomenon.

The first half of the fifth season, with eight episodes, aired from November 2022 to January 2023; the second half, with six episodes, is scheduled to premiere on November 10, 2024.

Paramount Network released a short teaser for the second part of the fifth season on Friday. “Legacy. You build something valuable. Someone will try to take it away from you,” says John Dutton (Kevin Costner) at the beginning of the video.

“What I do, I don’t do for the ranch. It’s for us,” says Cole Hauser’s Rip, while Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton pulls out a knife from somewhere. There are also brief shots of FBI agents storming a building, hordes of horseback riders, and tense conversations.

Some first images from Season 5 Part 2 were also released on Thursday. Newcomers can watch a “Yellowstone” marathon on Paramount Network this weekend, starting Friday, August 30th at 7:00 p.m. PT/10:00 p.m. ET and running through Monday, September 2nd.

Last December, it was reported that lead actor Costner would be leaving “Yellowstone” to focus on directing his two-part western film “Horizon.” In June, he confirmed his exit ahead of the premiere of “Horizon: Part One,” which was a box office flop.

In September, Costner threatened to sue the producers of “Yellowstone” during a child support hearing as part of his divorce from Christine Baumgartner. The actor claimed that he should have received $12 million anyway due to a “pay or play” clause for the second half of season five, and pointed out that the “long, hard negotiations” led to his exit. Neither the studio nor the network have commented on Costner’s exit from the series.

Paramount plans to greenlight a post-Yellowstone spin-off contemporary series called The Madison, which will feature Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox, Elle Chapman and Beau Garrett. There’s also the possibility that a surprise sixth season will be officially greenlit, focusing on Reilly and Hauser’s characters.

“‘Yellowstone’ was the foundation upon which we launched an entire universe of global hits – from ‘1883’ to ‘Tulsa King,’ and I am confident that our ‘Yellowstone’ sequel will be another major hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible cast that brings these shows to life,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, in a statement announcing “2024.”
