PHOENIX – A piece of land in the Mill Avenue neighborhood is available for developers who want to build a high-rise project there.
The City of Tempe is seeking companies interested in building a mixed-use high-rise project on the site of the former Tempe Performing Arts Center.
Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said in a press release that the city hopes to create affordable housing for Tempe’s diverse workforce on the existing property.
Tempe is specifically looking for companies that have experience building rental housing for all income levels as well as office and commercial space. In addition, the city is looking for developers that have experience with the Green Building Code for Construction and promote walkability, the press release said.
“The City of Tempe wants to partner with a developer who can demonstrate a vision for the city’s future by delivering a building that will meet the needs of today and tomorrow,” said Mike DiDomenico, Tempe’s economic development director, in a press release.
The city’s goal is for 20% of housing units to be considered “affordable.”
The location near Forest Avenue and Fifth Street is not to be confused with the current location of the Tempe Center for the Arts on Tempe Town Lake.
Mixed-use high-rise buildings are versatile buildings that can serve residential, commercial, leisure and industrial functions.
