Tequesta Brewing protests against plans for state park

TEQUESTA, Fla. – Palm Beach County residents are not only opposing the conversion of Jonathan Dickinson State Park into a golf course, but also proposed changes to all state parks in Florida.

WPTV reporter Romelo Styles attended a Tequesta Brewing Company rally today to hear residents’ concerns about projects planned across the state.

“This is something very important to me,” said Liz Bernstein, who organized the event with her husband. “If we don’t protect our parks across the state, there will be no wild Florida left.”

Many supporters flocked to Tequesta Brewing to learn more about the proposals and show their artistic side by designing signs.

“I am honored and hope that these amendments will be withdrawn due to public protests,” Bernstein said.

Fran Andrewlevich, owner of Tequesta Brewing Company, says it was important to open his doors for this event because the state park is a big part of the community.

“It’s comfort, it’s peace and it’s deeply rooted in who we are here in Tequesta,” Andrewlevich said.

Andrewlevich wants his voice to be heard by elected officials.

“Let the park go, let it be what it is,” Andrewlevich said. “If you want it to be something, don’t make it golf, don’t make it pickleball, put it somewhere else.”
