Tesla Supercharger station coming to Los Osos

Tesla Supercharger station coming to Los Osos

Work is currently underway to install 15 Tesla Superchargers in the Grocery Outlet parking lot on Los Osos Valley Road in Los Osos. Barbara Akle has been driving a Tesla for six years.

“I’ve noticed that there are a lot more Teslas now. I see them a lot. I think that’s a good thing. We’re happy about it,” said Barbara Akle, a Los Osos resident.

Akle says before she could install her charger at home, she had to drive to San Luis Obispo to access a Supercharger station.

“It was a long drive there and back just to charge,” said Akle.

But not everyone in the community is happy about the new additions.

“I am totally against lithium batteries and they have not been proven yet,” said Morro Bay resident Richard Barraza.

Barraza says he is afraid the batteries could catch fire.

“They should have a special place for them somewhere outside so that if something happens, there are no residents or anything like that around,” Barraza said.

Akle believes this will benefit not only Tesla owners in Los Osos, but also other areas further north.

“It’s good for Morro Bay too, they’re so close. I think they’ll probably take advantage of it too,” Akle said.

Barraza says he wishes the area was at least suitable for other types of cars, not just Teslas.

“It should be for everyone. You don’t have to have a Tesla, it depends on how many people can afford a Tesla,” Barraza said.

According to the district, the work must be completed before the permit expires in February.
