Texas Longhorns running back Jaydon Blue left Saturday’s game against the Michigan Wolverines due to an apparent leg injury, another major injury concern for the team at that position this season.

Blue ran three yards to convert a third-and-2 attempt for the Longhorns, but injured himself in the process and had to hop off the field without putting any weight on his left leg.

Trainers from Texas accompanied Blue to the medical tent for further examination.

Before his injury, Blue led Texas with 14 rushing yards on four attempts and was the only Longhorns running back to have the ball more than once on the team’s first two possessions.

After Blues converted on third down, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to tight end Gunnar Helm for an early 7-0 lead.

But the Longhorns cannot afford another injury at the running back position after losing their projected starting rusher CJ Baxter for the season when he suffered a knee injury during practice.

Shortly thereafter, reserve back Christian Clark tore his Achilles tendon and underwent surgery that will keep him off the field for the 2024 season.

In Blue’s absence, the Longhorns have only three scholarship tailbacks available, including true freshman Jerrick Gibson.

Gibson made an immediate impact on the game, scoring a 7-yard touchdown that gave Texas a 14-3 lead over Michigan in the second quarter.

The touchdown capped a 76-yard drive that lasted 12 plays and just under five minutes.
