A wealth of French bakeries and pastry shops have sprung up like mushrooms in Oslo recently. Much of the credit goes to Pascal Dupuy, a Frenchman who has lived and worked in the city “forever” and opened his first patisserie here in 1995, simply called Pascal. Today, there are several other places where you can try these delicacies, and according to former Pascal employee Quentin Coudert, who now runs Obelia, French pastries are constantly evolving.

Pascal – the “original”

It all started in 1995 when Pascal Dupuy opened his first patisserie in what was then a fairly run-down area of ​​downtown Oslo. The cafe/restaurant/shop is still located in its original location in a listed building at Tollbugata 11. To be honest, the area is still a bit rough, but since then Pascal has opened several more restaurants in the city, and the man himself has even been the subject of his own TV series and is a household name to viewers across the country.
Pascal is a member of the Relais Desserts organization, which consists of around 100 pastry chefs and chocolate makers from 19 countries to ensure that French Haute Pâtisserie shines all over the world. To be included in Relais Desserts, Pascal produced a fennel cake that has been sold in his stores since 1998, and for good reason.
The personable Frenchman is a master maker of macarons, original chocolate creations and mirror cakes, and his homemade ice cream is a recurring summer hit for Oslo residents. He never rests on his laurels, and you’ll always find new and exciting flavor combinations in Pascal’s stores.
