There’s also the scary sci-fi Alien (1979), the psychological horror Mandy (2018), and the romance gone wrong Fresh (2022). And finally, check out The Omen (1976), It Follows (2014), Get Out (2017), and Titane (2021).

Mia Goth and Alexander Skarsgård star in this disturbing film from Brandon Cronenberg (son of horror filmmaker David) about a vacationing couple who leave their island resort and accidentally commit a crime. If you count incredibly capable, invisible Killing machines are just as scary that you might see some scenes in Prey through your fingers. Set 300 years ago in the Comanche tribe, this addition to the Predator series centers on a young warrior named Naru. IFC Films

This Finnish monster movie is straight out of your feathered nightmares. The flick introduces Tinja, a 12-year-old girl who discovers a strange egg that hatches into a monstrous bird. The terrifying creature is a stark contrast to her family’s expectations of perfection, so it’s a sort of cursed version of ET. Well, maybe not. You can watch the film and draw your own conclusions.

You Are Not My Mother introduces Char, a bright young girl who lives with her grandmother and her mentally ill mother, Angela. Angela disappears and when she returns, she acts eerily different. It’s a creepy, slow-moving mystery that won’t let you go, anchored by a strong main character.

20th Century Studios

This prequel to 1976’s The Omen didn’t hit theaters until April, but you can already stream it on Hulu. In the film, Nell Tiger Free (Myrcella Baratheon in Game of Thrones) plays an American woman working in Rome who uncovers a plot to give birth to the Antichrist.
