Storms almost out of central Alabama … New warning for Pike

The threat of damaging winds remains in southern Alabama, southern Georgia, and the northern Florida Panhandle. Storm activity is expected to gradually decrease over the next 1-3 hours. A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Pike County, Alabama, including Troy and Brundidge, until 8:45 p.m. CDT due to the threat of wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hailstones.

Severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Barbour County

A severe thunderstorm in central Barbour County is moving southeast at 35 mph, bringing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail to areas including Eufaula, Clayton and Texasville. Seek shelter immediately.

Severe thunderstorms in Marengo, Lowndes and Dallas counties are moving south. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hailstones are expected, causing damage to vehicles, roofs, facades and trees. Magnolia, Fort Deposit and nearby communities are among those affected.

The severe weather warning has been lifted for north central Alabama counties … for southern counties, the warning remains in effect and a new one has been issued

Severe weather warnings remain in effect for several counties in central and southern Alabama, as well as parts of northwest Florida and southwest Georgia. Residents in these areas should remain alert as the storms could bring damaging winds and hail by the evening.

Quick Ernesto update: We have another hurricane!

In their 5:00 p.m. AST update, the NHC stated that Ernesto’s maximum sustained winds are now at 75 mph. The pressure is 977 mb and the motion is to the NNE at 17 mph. The center was located about 520 miles south of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
