‘The Bachelorette’ Jenn Tran reveals ‘pretty immediate’ change in Devin after engagement

Just hours after revealing the heartbreaking end of her time as The Bachelorette, Jenn Tran has revealed more details about her split from ex-fiancé Devin Strader.

“I noticed pretty quickly that the effort was different and there were inconsistencies and that he was promising me things that he then didn’t keep,” Tran recalled in an interview with Good Morning America on Wednesday. “I said, ‘Maybe it’s just the show – it took a lot of the show’, so I accepted that and I think over time I realized that his heart just wasn’t in it anymore.”

On the live finale of the 21st season of “The Bachelorette” on Tuesday, Tran revealed that she and Strader got engaged in Hawaii but things went downhill after they split after production wrapped. She said the night before their “happy couple” visit, Strader broke off their engagement via phone call and told her he regretted his engagement. Since then, he has ignored her calls and texts, she said, and the live finale was the first time they had seen each other in person since their last “happy couple” visit.

“Devin and I got engaged in May and broke up about a month ago. It’s been up and down since then, so it was nice to finally get the closure I needed last night,” Tran said.

Although she noticed the “immediate” change in Strader’s efforts and behavior, Tran said nothing has changed in her since their engagement. During that time, Tran made history for becoming the first “Bachelorette” to propose on the ABC reality dating show.

“Nothing had changed for me… I was so happy, I was so ready to start our life together, but I realized that his energy and his priorities had shifted and he was no longer the same person he was on the show and off the show,” she said.

Still, Tran said that despite their split, she does not regret proposing to Strader. “I proposed to a man who promised me a fulfilling life, a loving partnership and the marriage he always wanted.” She explained that she was still sure of her wishes for a future marriage, but realized that Strader was not “the man he always thought he was.”

Tran will soon begin another journey on an ABC reality show, this time on “Dancing With the Stars” in the fall, where she will team up with dance pro Sasha Farber.

“I’ve always wanted to learn to dance, so this is kind of a dream come true for me,” Tran said.
