The best Airbnbs in New York City based on location

The best Airbnbs in New York City based on location

New York City is one of the most difficult cities in the world to navigate.

The subway is pretty extensive – but difficult to use. Not only are there frequent delays, but reading the maps and figuring out how to get from point A to point B can be really confusing.

Especially when it comes to local and express trains.

And this is even more true when train timetables and routes change suddenly – and you only find out about it thanks to a barely understandable announcement from the subway loudspeakers.

Taxis and rideshares aren’t much better.

Getting stuck in traffic is a daily risk, so New Yorkers take the subway. It’s faster and more reliable than driving. But the worst part is that taxi and rideshare fares are higher than ever.

The location should therefore Great on your list if you are looking for accommodation in New York City.

Unfortunately, finding a rental in a good location that won’t break the bank is not for the faint of heart. You also need to consider things like amenities, proximity to good restaurants, security, windows that block out street noise, and more.

However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Let me introduce you to some of the best Airbnbs in New York City for New York newbies. Each of these offers a great location for your first trip to the Big Apple – but I’ll leave it up to you to decide what other features are most important to you.

Best location in town: Trendy Apartment in Chelsea

It’s beautifully appointed, located in one of Manhattan’s trendiest neighborhoods, and doesn’t cost a fortune.

I can really only highly recommend this stay.

The Chelsea location puts you close to the city’s most famous restaurants, parks, cafes and bars, while other hotspots like West Village, Greenwich Village and Meatpacking are just a short walk away.

And although it may seem small to visitors, it is palatial by New York studio standards.

Best shared Airbnb: Cute room in a Williamsburg townhouse

Williamsburg is in Brooklyn – a great place for first-time visitors. (The same goes for Queens, but we’ll get into that below.)

It’s one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city… and by trendiest, I mean it’s overrun with hipsters. (In a good way.)

Williamsburg is a great place to stay in Brooklyn because you’re also close to trains that go to Manhattan and Queens. And since it’s considered one of the coolest places in the city, there’s plenty to do here, from pop-up shops to unusual new restaurants.

Even the apartment reflects this exquisite taste. It has a great design and furnishings and offers you a great landing place for your adventure in the urban jungle. Provided you don’t mind interacting with the host.

Best location in Brooklyn: Dazzling condo in Williamsburg

I told you Williamsburg is a great neighborhood.

Although I lived in Red Hook during my Brooklyn years, I often stayed in Williamsburg. In fact, this rental is right on Metropolitan Ave – a hip spot in the borough.

In terms of design, the rental apartment is not the prettiest, but it is by no means shabby.

Guests also have access to a backyard, which prime Real estate in New York City. I’m sure that’s one of the reasons why this place has a perfect 5-star rating and Airbnb’s “Guest Favorite” award.

(Pro tip: The nearby Alligator Lounge hosts bingo and trivia nights, as well as other typical bar events. It’s something of an institution.)

Best location in Queens: Sonder the Dutch

If this is your first time in New York City, Queens should also be on your radar.

First, Long Island City has train and subway lines that make it easy to everywhere in the city. Or even outside, including to Long Island.

Second, Queens is the most diverse region in the world in terms of language and culture – meaning there’s plenty to do here without leaving the city limits. I suggest heading to Jackson Heights in search of good food.

Sonder The Dutch is a new boutique hotel in Long Island City that not only offers great views of the Manhattan skyline, but is also close to Brooklyn’s hottest spots.

Just take the G (if it comes) to Greenpoint and Williamsburg.

Most New York flair: Rare penthouse oasis

So what is a New York vibe? Aside from using the oven as a shoe rack, a New York vibe involves a balance of creativity, empowerment, and hustler vibes.

It’s about getting through life with style – in the truest sense of the word.

This shared Airbnb gives me pure New York vibes for several reasons. First, the unconventional jumble of furniture and textiles feels understated and stylish.

Second, the huge communal terrace offers a gorgeous view of Manhattan. Third, there is a record player and a huge record collection available for guests to use – a very atmospheric feature. It may not be distinctly New York, but I’m sure it adds to the atmosphere.

Budget option: Blue Freesia

I’ve done the impossible: I’ve found you a private room in Manhattan for under $150.

Oh, and it has a fantastic location and a comfortable bed that ensures a restful sleep after long days.

Other than that, this spot is ideal as a landing pad – and not much more. The bedroom has all the basic features, but it can get a little noisy at night. If that’s not a big problem for you (or if you have access to good earplugs), then grab this spot ASAP.
