Southern Living just released its picks for the best new grilling spots for 2024.
The new list focuses on barbecue restaurants that have opened since Southern Living last published a similar list in September 2021. The spotlight is on 22 restaurants in the South that have made a name for themselves despite being open for a short time.
Here are Southern Living’s picks for the best new barbecue joints in Tennessee and the rest of the South.
Blake’s at Southern Milling
Blake’s at Southern Milling was the highest-ranked restaurant in Tennessee, coming in at number 7. Located in Martin, the restaurant only opened in 2022 and has been delighting customers ever since. Blake’s offers Texas-style barbecue in the middle of Tennessee. According to Southern Living, the standout menu item is the brisket.

Jacks Creek BBQ in Jacks Creek, Tennessee, ranked 8th. The restaurant has been in operation for 70 years and changed hands in 2023. Even under the new ownership, it still attracts customers.

Bringle’s Smoking Oasis in Nashville came in at number 11. Bringle’s is another Texas-style barbecue restaurant in the Volunteer State. According to Southern Living, the standout dish is the thick-cut pastrami.
