NEBULOUS: Fleet Command is a tactical space war game that emphasizes realism and strategy. Players command fleets of ships in intense, physics-based battles where every decision counts. With detailed ship customization, a focus on positioning, and the intricacies of electronic warfare, it offers a deep and immersive space combat experience.

The game comes with a number of pre-built fleets for the player to choose from. Within these fleets, there are certain ship hulls that are significantly better than the others. These can serve as great templates for players who want to design their own ships in this sci-fi game.

7 Cobalt fleet

The Cobalt Fleet Monitor is a multi-role ship with a number of different weapon mounts that can be mixed and matched to create a hull designed for a specific role. The main battery mounts are not matched, with the maximum armament being one C90 cannon and one T30 cannon each.

This hull also has a single VLS-1-46. However, rather than using this launcher to deal damage, it is generally more useful for firing consumables such as decoys and chaff. In this RTS game, it also has two point defense turrets.

6 TF Oak Fleet

The TF Oak heavy cruiser offers a good balance of speed, maneuverability, survivability and firepower. A typical ship of the line that can fill many roles, but does none of them particularly well.

With its three M66 cannons as its main battery, it can do significant damage from a distance, albeit slowly. For defense, it has point defense turrets on each side that give it effective missile protection. Overall, this is a solid workhorse of a ship that can fill multiple roles in a fleet.

5 TF Birch Fleet

The TF Birch light cruiser is a lighter version of the TF Oak heavy cruiser. It sacrifices some armor and defenses in exchange for greater speed and maneuverability, making it clearly part of the capital ship protection. This light cruiser acts as an outpost on the edge of a fleet and is designed to quickly move into any position it is needed in.

The main battery has also been reduced in size compared to the TF Oak and now consists of three of the smaller M63 cannons. The light cruiser TF Birch also has slightly weaker defenses, as it only has four point defense turrets that provide missile protection.

4 TF Redwood Fleet

Equipped with a single M64 cannon and a VLS-1-46 launcher, the TF Redwood destroyer has only one role in a fleet: to inflict damage as quickly as possible in combat anywhere in the fleet.

This destroyer has limited armor and defenses, and relies on its speed and maneuverability to stay out of trouble. Often deployed in squadrons, destroyers are highly mobile weapons platforms that are intended to be somewhat expendable as long as they fulfill the objective of destroying larger ships.

3 TF Ash Fleet

The TF Ash fleet features a multi-role corvette that can be quickly adapted to fulfill many roles in a fleet. With minimal armor and structure, this hull has a very low mass, meaning it accelerates quickly and maneuvers nimbly. However, being such a small ship, the TF Ash corvette is paper thin and can be easily destroyed if out of position and undefended.

The multi-purpose capability of this hull means it can be equipped with a single M64 cannon, advanced radar, EWAR jammers, and other utility modules to expand a fleet’s capabilities as needed.

2 TF Sycamore Fleet

The fleet’s TF Sycamore frigate has enough survivability to operate alone in certain roles such as reconnaissance, sacrificing some speed and maneuverability compared to the corvette class to ensure it has enough defenses to withstand some damage.

This ship can also be equipped with a wide range of equipment to expand a fleet’s capabilities, but its strengths lie in its role as a reconnaissance ship or missile frigate. Equipped with a VLS-1-46 launcher, it can be used to inflict damage from a distance.

1 Wulfenite Squadron

The Wulfenite Squadron has a very well equipped Ocello-class command cruiser. This is a large ship designed to be reconfigured for use in any role. It has a large number of weapon mounts, each of which can be adapted for different purposes.

Generally, three Mk 60 cannons are used as the main battery, which deal a decent amount of damage. Smaller mounts can be used to attach equipment such as missile defense jammers. And with space for up to 8 point defense turrets, it is well defended too. Overall, a solid choice for single ship missions in NEBULOUS: Fleet Command, and one of the best ships in the game.
