The biggest moments of the 2024 MTV VMAs: Taylor Swift leads the nominees

The biggest moments of the 2024 MTV VMAs: Taylor Swift leads the nominees

Only Beyoncé has more VMAs than Taylor Swift. Will that change tonight?

Taylor Swift is close to becoming the artist with the most VMAs. Beyoncé currently holds the record according to the Guinness Book of World Records with 30 wins.

Swift now has 23 and is up for 12 awards at tonight’s ceremony. She is nominated for the following awards:

  • Song of the Summer: “Fortnight”
  • Most iconic performance at the VMAs: “You Belong With Me”
  • Video of the year: “Fortnight”
  • Artist of the Year
  • Song of the Year: “Fortnight”
  • Best collaboration: “Fortnight”
  • Best Pop
  • Best Director: “Fortnight”
  • Best Cinematography: “Fortnight”
  • Best Visual Effects: “Fortnight”
  • Best Art Direction: “Fortnight”

If she wins seven awards, she’ll be tied with Beyoncé. If she wins eight, she could win. At last year’s VMAs, Swift took home nine awards, so the eight needed to break the record isn’t impossible.

However, Beyoncé is also nominated for the 2023 VMAs. She is nominated for:

  • Song of the Year: “Texas Hold ‘Em”
  • Most iconic performance at the VMAs: “Love on Top”
  • Best Trending Video: “Texas Hold ‘Em”

At the annual awards ceremony, Swift leads the list of nominees with 12 nominations. The pop star is nominated for the big award of the night, video of the year for “Fortnight,” as well as artist of the year and song of the year.

The “Video of the Year” competition consists of:

  • Billie Eilish – “LUNCH”
  • Doja Cat – “Paint the Town Red”
  • Eminem – “Houdini”

  • Taylor Swift ft. Post Malone – “Fortnight”

Other artists in line to win a Moon Man include Post Malone, who collaborated with Swift on “Fortnight” and has nine nominations. Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Eminem are each up for six awards.

It is expected to be an exciting show as there are 29 new nominees this year, all hoping to get their very first moon man.

Although there were six nominations for the Best New Artist award, only Gracie Abrams, Chappell Roan and Tyla are in the running for the award. Benson Boone, Shaboozey and Teddy Swims were eliminated from the final round.
