The USA will officially receive a 2025 BMW M5 Touring, which will be launched later this year as a station wagon with 717 hp.

That’s the total system output, as is the 1,000 Nm of torque that comes from the M Hybrid powertrain. The M5 Touring consists of a 4.4-liter V8 engine with two turbochargers and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed transmission. With the optional M Driver’s Package, it is said to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 305 km/h.

Another benefit of electric assistance is emissions-free driving, which the M5 Touring can do up to 25 miles on a full charge of its 14.8 kWh battery. Full-electric driving is possible up to 87 mph; after that, the gasoline engine must kick in to keep the ride going. In both cases, power meets the road through 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels wrapped in 285- and 295-inch tires, respectively.

As expected, a number of chassis and aerodynamic improvements refine the M5 Touring’s edge even further. Specific to the M5 are stiffer drivetrain mounts, bracing and chassis tuning. Adaptive M suspension is standard, as are M compound brakes, which can be upgraded to carbon ceramic. A redesigned grille and various air intakes direct air to the eight-cylinder engine and cooling elements. Various driving modes work hand in hand with the rear-biased all-wheel drive and the electronically controlled limited-slip differential on the rear axle to keep power down.

Those who view the M5 Touring as a luxury people carrier rather than a track-ready station wagon will not be surprised to read about its upscale cabin. BMW’s curved display is back, consisting of a 12.3-inch digital readout and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen, although various M-specific graphics and gauges are projected onto it. A head-up display is standard, as is BMW Operating System 8.5. The cabin seats five and is accentuated by ambient lighting, a panoramic roof and an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

Priced at $122,675 (including destination), the M5 Touring won’t be a cheap pleasure when it arrives in the U.S. this fall.
