The Epic Games Store serves as a platform to purchase and download video games developed and managed by Epic Games. It offers a hand-picked selection of games for PC and Mac and often features exclusive titles and significant discounts.
For those who don’t know, Epic Games regularly releases one or sometimes two new games every Thursday that players can purchase for free and add to their collection. Once claimed, the games become part of the user’s permanent library, even though they may never get around to playing all of the titles. Following last week’s offerings of Death’s Gambit: Afterlife and an add-on for World of Warships, the Epic Games Store is currently offering The Callisto Protocol and Gigantic: Rampage Edition as free gifts.
The most outstanding game of the two is The Callisto Protocoldeveloped by Striking Distance Studios and Glen Schofield, the mind behind Dead Space. With a Metacritic score of 70, it was released in December 2022. Set 300 years in the future, the game chronicles the saga of Jacob Lee, who is wrongfully imprisoned in a maximum security prison on Jupiter’s moon. Players are tasked with accompanying Jacob in his attempt to escape the dangerous prison, now inhabited by monstrous creatures that were once trapped here.
The other free game available on the Epic Games Store this week is equally intriguing. Gigantic: Rampage Edition is a combination of MOBA and hero shooter with a complex story. In short, the game was originally released in 2017, canceled in 2018 due to lack of response, and relaunched this year under a different studio. The original Gigantic is based on a free-to-play model and although the new version normally costs $20, it does not contain any microtransactions.
