The Cowboys have signed two stars with highly lucrative contracts. Micah Parsons is next in line

CLEVELAND – Receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott are no longer in the running for high-paying contracts. Who is next in line for the Cowboys?

It looks like linebacker Micah Parsons is next.

When asked for his initial reaction to Prescott’s agreement to the most lucrative contract in NFL history on Sunday, Parsons yelled, “Damn.”

Parsons is eligible for a contract extension next season and expects to receive one of the largest contracts for a non-quarterback in league history.

Parsons’ agent David Mulugheta was in attendance for the Cowboys’ 33-17 win over the Browns on Sunday.

Mulugheta also represents Cleveland quarterback Deshaun Watson, who signed one of the most lucrative contracts for an NFL player after his trade from Houston: a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million deal.

In June, Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson reached the highest salary for a non-quarterback in the NFL when he signed a four-year, $140 million deal with $110 million guaranteed. Jefferson’s contract surpassed the five-year, $170 million deal signed by the 49ers’ Nick Bosa.

Parsons will most likely get more than Bosa, but whether he can get past Jefferson is uncertain.

“We’ll see, man,” Parsons said. “I just have to keep doing what I’m doing, keep working, keep trying to be the best player I can be and try to win championships, and then they’ll probably throw me a little something on the side.”

Parsons, a three-time Pro Bowl and two-time All-Pro selection, recorded one sack and five quarterback hits against the Browns.

Parsons is not the only player who has the prospect of a new contract in the future.

Left guard Tyler Smith and cornerback DaRon Bland are also expected to extend their contracts if they continue to play outstandingly. Smith won his first Pro Bowl last season in just his second year. Bland led the NFL with nine interceptions last season.
