The giant nap pillow “My Neighbor Totoro” returns to the official Studio Ghibli store

The giant nap pillow “My Neighbor Totoro” returns to the official Studio Ghibli store

Of all the films in Studio Ghibli’s extensive catalog My Neighbor Totoro is perhaps the most well-known and popular of them. Now, the titular forest creature has returned to Ghibli’s official online store in the form of a giant napping plush toy.

Originally released in April 2023, it’s not hard to see why the coveted item sold out after its release over a year ago at Donguri Sora. The My Neighbor Totoro Big Totoro Nap Cushion isn’t just any toy; as the name suggests, it’s a plush toy that doubles as a nap pillow – big enough for kids and adults alike to snuggle up in as they drift off to a magical sleep. Marketed as both an interior decor item and a sleep aid, the product allows buyers to recreate one of the film’s most famous scenes, in which Mei climbs atop the forest spirit and falls asleep on his giant, incredibly soft-looking belly.

Studio Ghibli’s highly anticipated My Neighbor Totoro nap pillow is being reissued

At 27,500 yen (about $186), the My Neighbor Totoro Big Totoro Nap Cushion isn’t a cheap plush toy, though its sheer size — while not quite as big as the creature from the film — also easily makes it one of the store’s largest items. At just over 70 cm (about 28 inches) long, it’s big enough for adults to snuggle up in comfortably, and the perfect size for toddlers (or even pets) to lounge around on. With Totoro’s own sleepy expression and gently rounded exterior, it’s no wonder the toy is described as: “You’ll want to dive into its fluffy belly and take a nap together.”

International buyers might also be in luck, because although Donguri Sora doesn’t ship overseas, the sleeping pillow isn’t listed as a limited edition item or exclusive to Ghibli’s online store, as is common with many of its products. Instead, the toy is sold by Sun Arrow, a toy retailer for Studio Ghibli that has its own Japanese website but also operates official stores through global stores like Amazon, Crunchyroll, and Plaza Japan. As a restock product, the giant plush toy could also be available from individual sellers through major e-commerce sites like eBay (though likely at a higher price than if you were to buy it in Japan).

My Neighbor Totorois available to stream along with the rest of Studio Ghibli’s film library on Max for viewers in the US and Japan, and on Netflix for viewers in Canada, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
