The Heckscher Museum in Huntington offers new food trucks on Fridays

The name of the new dining concept at the Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington was inevitable: Palette Café. But if that makes you think of French classics, you’re wrong; the kitchen here consists of a series of food trucks. Thirty-six seats have been set up on the museum’s neoclassical terrace, and there are plenty more picturesque seating areas in Heckscher Park, which is essentially the museum’s front yard.

Palette Cafe opened earlier this month and will remain open through September. A new food truck arrives every Friday afternoon and the fleet includes Big Black Food Truck (modern soul food, BBQ and more, August 23), Roadhouse Empanadas (August 30), Cousins Maine Lobster (September 20) and All American Wontons (September 27).

While you’re there, why not stop by the museum? Admission is free and current exhibitions include “The Stick Men,” a series of paintings by German social artist George Grosz (1893-1959), who lived in Huntington from 1947 until shortly before his death.

The Palette Cafe is open Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. through Sept. 27 at the Heckscher Museum of Art, 2 Prime Ave., Huntington, 631-380-3230, heckscher.org. Details and updates (including rain cancellations) will be posted on Instagram: @heckschermuseum.
