The Jets’ quick attacking start laid the foundation for a dominant victory over the Patriots

The Jets entered their first home game Thursday night against the Patriots at MetLife Stadium with a few key goals in mind.

The first was obvious: win the game and get to 2-1 after a 0-1 start.

To accomplish that, the Jets felt they needed a quick start on offense second — something they had failed to accomplish in their first two games.

They accomplished both goals, defeating the Patriots, their long-time nemesis, 24-3. This was their first home win against New England since 2015.

The basis for the victory was the Jets’ quick start to the attack.

They scored touchdowns on two of their first three drives and on their first possession of the second half.

On their first five possessions in the opening loss at San Francisco, the Jets had three three-and-outs and Hall lost the fumble in their own territory.

In Sunday’s win at Tennessee, the Jets started the game with two three-and-outs and three consecutive punts, but got away with it due to the Titans’ ineptitude on offense.

Before Thursday night’s game, Jets receiver Garrett Wilson said it was “super important” to get going faster on offense.

“I think once you get going and get off to a good start, it gives you energy for the rest of the game,” Wilson said. “That’s what we’re working on. We want to come in with the mindset that we want to score first and we want to score on the first drive. You have to have the mindset. You have to go out there and do it.”

The Jets failed to score on their first possession of the game, but took a 7-0 lead on their second drive, culminating in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Allen Lazard.

The Jets gained their second possession and drove 91 yards on 13 plays, taking a 14-0 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Hall.

They continued the fast start in the second half, taking a 21-3 lead on their first possession of the third quarter with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Garrett Wilson.
