The Kills release cover of Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever”

The EP will be released this Friday

Indie rock duo The Kills released a soulful rendition of Billie Eilish’s dark single “Happier Than Ever,” which will be featured on the duo’s upcoming EP Happier girls, is released this Friday.

The Kills, consisting of singer Alison Mosshart and guitarist Jamie Hince, first performed an acoustic version of the 2021 hit during a Sirius XM recording in 2023. Mosshart said in a press release that Laurence Bell, founder of independent record label Domino, reached out to the rock duo after hearing the radio show and encouraged them to make a recording on electric guitar.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of ‘Happier Than Ever’ and sang it all the time at home,” Mosshart said. “It seemed like a good choice since I loved it and loved singing it.”

The EP will be available in physical and digital formats. A 7″ vinyl record includes the rock cover “Happier Than Ever” and “My Girls My Girls” from their 2023 EP. God Games. The digital EP will add the God Games tracks “103,” “New York,” and “Better Days.” The Kills have reunited with producer Paul Epworth, the band’s first engineer, for the 12-track album God Games.

“We were in London recording a non-electronic EP, and what’s the first song on it?” Mosshart asked of “Happier than Ever.” “An electronic cover of the acoustic cover we did… and the more electronic the better. Thank you, Billie, for writing such a great song!”

As part of The Kills tour, the rock duo will perform in Jackson, Mississippi, and New Orleans this fall, as well as stops at the Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, the Billy Reid Shindig in Florence, Alabama, and the Hipnosis festival in Mexico City.
