The official unofficial review of New Fair Food by the Tuckwiller Sisters – Real WV

The official unofficial review of New Fair Food by the Tuckwiller Sisters – Real WV

By Amelia & Gloria Tuckwiller for RealWV,

The official and unofficial New Fair Food Review 2024 is here!

10. The Nutty Chocolatier – Maple Fudge, $10. The flavor was good, but the texture could be better. We miss the Fudge Folks and continue to believe that fudge should be made fresh daily here at the fairgrounds.

9. Chinese Popcorn Chicken, $10. If you’re a picky eater and like plain chicken nuggets, this is the one for you! Plain and simple.

8. The Loaded Onion, $16. Loaded onions are great, especially if you have a Texas Roadhouse coupon. This wasn’t free, though. Imagine a loaded onion loaded with yellow nacho cheese and bacon bits and served with sauce (not ranch sauce). We like loaded fries, we like loaded nachos, but this combination was just too much.

7. Ranch Pickle on a Stick, $7. This was a good snack. We always like food on a stick. The juice from the pickle dripped a little, but overall it was good. The same was true of the other flavors, including Cherry Kool-Aid Pickles. Come by and try it with the Pickle Guy!

6. Dreamsicle Milkshake, $6. Wonderful, refreshing and orangey. (Is there such a word?) The Mawelton Ruritan Club is a great organization with wonderful volunteers. We are always happy to support them!

5. Pistachio ice cream, $5. A nice treat on a hot, sunny day. This flavor was delicious, but in our honest opinion, their banana pudding ice cream was even better! We love Trudy’s Dairy World, but bring a change of clothes or a Tide Stick for drips!

4. Taki’s Mac ‘N’ Cheese Bacon Dog, $7. We were surprisingly pleased with this one. Granted, the mac and cheese was your usual Kraft mac and cheese, but this was pretty good.

3. Gillette’s Original Pickle Bacon Ranch Pizza, $7.50. As fans of the original dill pickle pizza, we knew this one would be good. Bacon and ranch are always a welcome addition. (The server told us to tell everyone that the customer service is excellent!)

2. Ramped Up Pimento Cheese, $12. We are huge ramp fans! We love the taste. Paired with a grilled pimento cheese sandwich with bacon, it was an unbeatable combination! The only downside is the price shock. At $12 for a grilled cheese, it should come with chips and a drink!

1. Hurricane (Debby) Fries, $20. No surprise. Fork’et Me Not wins again! Hurricane Fries have a base layer of French fries, then a layer of macaroni and cheese, choice of meat (chicken), and then covered in Yum Yum sauce. It’s a huge portion, rightfully so for $20, but we split it by four and were still full.

In summary, we recommend sticking with your favorite classics for 2024, even though we had some good options. It’s fun to try new ones, but with limited time and money, you should stick with your classic favorites, enjoy them, and enjoy the fair!
