The Playstation Store lists Red Dead Redemption as “now for the very first time on PC”

Well, keep your fingers crossed for me. Unless you’re Australian, in which case don’t. Just enjoy the now very confirmed release of the original Red Dead Redemption on PC. That’s according to a listing on the PlayStation Store that includes the currently vague but tantalizing phrase “now on PC for the very first time.” There’s also a release date: August 17.

“Red Dead Redemption will feature all of the upgrades from the 2023 console version, plus PC-specific improvements including support for higher resolutions and frame rates, multiple displays and other accessories, and spatial surround sound.” Yes, that’s basically just a confirmation. That’s enough!

In May, some of the exact copies used on the store page were datamined. A port of the 2010 open-world game has seemed inevitable for some time, and it looks like the wait is finally over.

If you missed the original Red Dead (Ok, not the Original Red Dead) is a looser, slightly sillier foray into the Wild West, although the writing was still very strong for the time. As with any modern remake, it also includes the excellent Undead Nightmare expansion, which sees a beleaguered John Marston fighting a turf war with hordes of zombies. Of course, RPS never had the chance to review the first Redemption game, but I’ll take this opportunity to link to Matthew Castle’s (RPS in Peace) excellent review of Red Dead Redemption 2. The screenshot in the headline alone is worth it.
