The Rivershed restaurant in Scituate closes on September 8

SCITUATE – Scituate restaurant Rivershed is closing after a decade at its New Driftway location. Its last day will be Sept. 8.

“We’ve had a fantastic ten years and now, due to circumstances beyond our control, we must close,” said a message posted on the barbecue restaurant’s Facebook page on Wednesday, August 7. “And we’re planning on throwing a party!”

Scituate native Kara Tondorf took over the restaurant in 2014 when it was still called JW’s Burger Bar. She opened a second location in Braintree, which has since closed, and one in Killington, Vermont, in 2021, which remains open.

Just last month, the Scituate restaurant was voted the restaurant with the best French fries on the South Coast in a Patriot Ledger readers’ poll.

The restaurant will accept gift cards until it closes next month.

“If you do not have access by then, you will need to drive to our Vermont location and use it there,” the Facebook post said.

The restaurant is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:40 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The post reveals that Tondorf, who describes herself as more of an entrepreneur than a restaurant owner, is already working on her next project.

“We know change is hard, but when one door closes, another opens, which will happen in late fall,” the post concluded. “Details on our new restaurant coming soon.”

The Rivershed is located at 17 New Driftway in Scituate. For menus and more information, visit Therivershed.com.
