The Steelers reportedly have a possible trade for Brandon Aiyuk from the 49ers in store

The Brandon Aiyuk saga continues to drag on for the San Francisco 49ers, but a surprising incident occurred on Tuesday. The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly made a deal to sign the 26-year-old receiver if the 49ers decide to do so.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Steelers have been working on a trade with San Francisco to sign Aiyuk. He added that Pittsburgh is “in a good position” to extend Aiyuk’s contract. The 49ers offered Aiyuk a long-term contract to keep him, but he did not accept it.

Pittsburgh has been Aiyuk’s most likely destination for several weeks now, as he would fill a large hole on the roster. The Steelers don’t have a top wideout and he would be a huge boost to the current receiver group.

Aiyuk was named second-team All-Pro last season after catching 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, a career high. He also set a new career high with 17.9 yards per pass. He was instrumental in San Francisco’s advance to Super Bowl LVIII, catching nine passes for 149 yards and scoring a touchdown in the postseason.

The 49ers have so far refused to give Aiyuk the long-term deal he seeks. The former first-round pick is entering the final season of his rookie contract and is scheduled to make $14.1 million in 2024. It’s not surprising that he wants a long-term commitment.

According to Rapoport, he could get the deal he wants, but it could come from the Steelers.
