Whatever you hear about this truck with the thick sides, the sales figures speak for themselves.

  • The Cybertruck exceeded all expectations and became the best-selling luxury car in the United States.
  • This is not the first time that the wide-sided pickup truck has achieved such a feat.
  • The average transaction price of the electric vehicle also increased by 11% compared to the previous year.

The Tesla Cybertruck divides opinion more than any other vehicle produced today. But in terms of sales, it was the best-selling vehicle in its class in July. Of all the six-figure cars available in the United States, it was the best-selling vehicle. No Mercedes, no Porsche, and no other make and model beat it.

That may be a bit surprising given the negative press this truck gets. Some of it may be well-deserved, but the reality is that the Cybertruck will get some of its sales based simply on what it is, not how good it objectively is. In July, buyers spent an average of $111,018 on it, but it still managed to sell more than any other six-figure-priced vehicle.

This data comes directly from the folks at Kelley Blue Book. Specifically, the data confirms that the GMC Hummer EV actually sold for more per unit, at $111,242 versus $111,018, but the GM product didn’t sell as well. Perhaps most interestingly, the Cybertruck managed to outperform traditional gasoline-powered trucks and everything else in that price segment.

“The special thing about the United States is its diversity, and that also applies to the U.S. auto market,” said Erin Keating, senior analyst at Cox Automotive.

“There are a lot of expensive, high-end vehicles on the market, but consumers have a lot of good options that are well below the industry average. We hear all the time from major dealers: no matter what the budget, there’s a good chance we can make something happen. That’s especially true when inventory is higher and incentives follow,” Keating added.

As we’ve reported in the past, high-end gasoline-powered trucks are getting more and more expensive these days. But no matter how stylish and capable they are, it seems that buyers with the cash to spend prefer the Cybertruck. In addition, Tesla recorded an average transaction price increase of 11 percent year-over-year across its entire model range.
