thePodcast: BC is the hottest place for Gaelic Football and Canadian Football on Labor Day weekend

For the week of August 25, 2024:

In this edition of the podcast, a football doubleheader in late summer.

First, Canada’s best Gaelic football players (and hurling and camogie players too) will descend on Burnaby for the Canadian National Championships from August 31 to September 1. Co-organizer Ronan Deane of the Vancouver Gaelic Athletic Association will join host Bob Mackin to give a taste of the festival of Ireland’s national sports.

Mackin then welcomes back Jim Mullin, President of Football Canada and Secretary General of the International Federation of American Football.

Mullin is in Finland, where Canada’s best flag football players are competing for the world championship en route to the Olympics in LA 28. Mullin is also looking ahead to Touchdown Pacific on Aug. 31, when the BC Lions host the Ottawa RedBlacks at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria. It will be the Lions’ first game in BC on turf since 1969, a chance for quarterback Nathan Rourke to shine in his birthplace, and another example of owner Amar Doman’s nationwide vision for the Lions.

Plus, this week’s headlines from the Pacific Rim and Pacific Northwest.
