There are two ways to wear this simple satin slip: opt for the solid maroon or mint version for minimalist chic; or go all-out retro with the Y2K-style digital floral print in acid green or shocking fuchsia. Either way, you’ll spend very little and make a big statement.

A real pleated skirt

If you’re after something a little more sophisticated, this pleated midi skirt is for you. It has a button and zip fastening and a universally flattering A-line shape, and comes in three very fun but still very grown-up prints: a mixed polka dot pattern in black or maroon, and a dark navy with preppy-chic horses – all of which look great both dressed up with a delicate blouse or simple with a basic t-shirt.

A cool scuba sweatshirt

I love a good sweatshirt. My truly huge collection is a nice mix of perfectly worn vintage pieces and more structured, modern pieces of today — and this Walmart version fits very well in the latter category. It has flattering dropped shoulders and a slightly cropped cut, a flattering, slightly cropped cut, and comes in lots of easy-to-wear colors that pair well with the above skirts or slip dress, wide-leg pants (below), or the brand’s matching scuba pants (here, here, and here).

Trendy wide leg trousers

The fashion world is awash with wide-leg pants right now, and based on comfort alone, I couldn’t be happier with them. This pair is made from a crepe suiting fabric that seems to drape beautifully, and comes in four neutral colorways. (I also recommend keeping an eye out for when this linen-blend style is back in stock.)

A cute sheath dress

This lightweight cotton-blend dress is a great transitional piece for fall—pair it with strappy sandals while it’s still hot, then switch to chunky loafers when the weather cools. With a universally flattering shift shape and three easy colorways (black, dark denim, and black polka dot), it’s a best-seller.

Layering is key in autumn and this cardigan is perfect for that. It has a delicate pointelle knit, is just loose enough to not look frumpy and comes in eight pretty colours. If you button it up all the way, you can even wear it as a subtly sexy standalone top.

The anorak I didn’t know I needed

I’ve been looking forward to fall weather for a while now, but now that this coat is in my shopping cart, I can’t wait. The multiple pockets, oversized hood and toggle fastening at the waist make it a very practical choice, but in my opinion it’s the striking shiny finish and unexpected mint green color that really wins it over. Wind and rain can come!

A maxi skirt in the style of the 90s…

This ankle-length skirt with an elastic waistband is the perfect length for fall. And while maxi skirts can seem a little dated, this one has a side slit and a bias cut to keep it youthful and fresh. But what really makes it for me are the strong Clueless vibes I get from the tonal blue check pattern. If you didn’t grow up in the ’90s and/or aren’t inspired by Alicia Silverstone’s iconic wardrobe, there’s also a version in black.

If you really want to go back to the 90s, I recommend pairing the skirt mentioned above with this baby tank top. It’s shrunken, seamless, stretchy, comes in a variety of colors, and in addition to the skirt, it also goes really well with the wide-leg pants we linked above.

A faux leather blazer that I just have to love

I can’t put my finger on why, but I’m obsessed with this shiny faux leather blazer – especially in the maroon colorway that will make me feel like a badass ’70s babe. It’s bold and definitely unexpected, but with a simple one-button silhouette and balanced lapels that keep it from being too costume-y. (Disclaimer: This one is $45, but what’s an extra $5 in the name of fashion?!)
