Thiago Motta: “Juventus wants to dominate” Champions League game

Thiago Motta explains why he chose surprising players for Juventus for their Champions League opening match against PSV Eindhoven and wants to “dominate” the game.

Kick-off is at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 5:45pm British time (4:45pm GMT).

You can follow the entire build-up and action of this game live and Milan-Liverpool in the LIVEBLOG.

This marks the return to Europe’s most prestigious tournament after 684 days, following the club’s exclusion from UEFA tournaments last season due to financial irregularities, which also resulted in points deductions in Serie A.

“It’s a great atmosphere, a football atmosphere that we want to enjoy to the fullest. We have to be concentrated and focused, we are playing against a team that likes to play football and so do we, so we have to use that to our advantage,” Thiago Motta told Sky Sport Italia.

“In Europe you come across teams like PSV who are able to dominate their opponents in the Eredivisie. We will try to do the same here.”

Thiago Motta’s selection surprises Juventus

Weston McKennie was close to leaving Juventus for Aston Villa this summer, but he managed to get back into the team and is even in the starting line-up in place of new signings Douglas Luiz and Khephren Thuram.

“He is in good form, I expect the same from him as from the others. Without the ball, all eleven players have to work together and with the ball we have to attack their back four, which we have not done well in the last two games,” explained Thiago Motta.

The Bianconeri have not conceded a goal in four Serie A matches but are coming off two 0-0 draws against Roma and Empoli. How can they give Dusan Vlahovic the support he needs?

“The attacks start from the back, even from the goalkeeper, and we need to get Vlahovic in the best shape to finish them.”
