Thief digs tunnel into liquor and jewelry store in Washington DC and steals goods worth over $100,000

Thief digs tunnel into liquor and jewelry store in Washington DC and steals goods worth over 0,000

The owner of an Adams Morgan store found his shop a huge mess and more than $100,000 worth of goods missing Wednesday morning after a thief broke in overnight.

According to owner Tam Le, the suspects tore down the brick wall of a vacant restaurant next to Le Liquor, a neighborhood convenience store and jewelry store, and dug a tunnel into it.

They left the store looted and stole more than $100,000 worth of jewelry, the owner told FOX 5.

The early morning theft was captured entirely on camera.

In the video, the suspect, wearing a hoodie and holding a crowbar, emerges from the hole in the wall that Le said he likely spent several hours digging to get into.

“There are sledgehammers and crowbars in use, I’ll probably have to knock on the bricks for at least five hours,” said Le.

The suspect looks directly into the camera for a moment before ducking.

Le says it all happened around 5:30 a.m. He says no beer, wine or liquor was stolen. Apparently the jewelry was the target.

FOX 5 has reached out to DC Police and we are awaiting their response.

Le says the company has been here for decades and has never seen anything like this, but also says there have been attempts recently. He tells FOX 5 they now plan to reinforce the walls.
