I was recently troll hunting in and around Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. One of the leads led me to the charming town of Frazee, which is a few miles southeast of Detroit Lakes. While I was there looking for trolls, I stumbled upon a large turkey statue as well as an incredible covered bridge in Minnesota that I had never heard of before. Check out what I found!

I went there looking for a troll, but quickly learned that Frazee is home to the “world’s largest turkey.”

Compared to other “world’s largest” roadside attractions in Minnesota, this one seemed a little small, so I was a little surprised that it was the “world’s largest.” But hey, who am I to disagree?

At first glance, everything seemed quite simple. A few ball fields, a few portable toilets and a path that led across the prairie along the Otter Tail River to a patch of forest.

The North Country Trail was just designated by the National Park Service, so you can expect to see some more amenities at this park in the future.

All in all, it was a pretty neat little hike, and the park was unexpectedly scenic. One thing to keep in mind when visiting this covered bridge in Wannigan Regional Park and hiking the trails there is that there is no drinking water available in the park (yet), so be sure to fill up a water bottle and bring it with you. I used AllTrails Plus to track my hike, and the out-and-back hike to the Troll was just under a mile on a wide, well-maintained trail; there was no significant elevation change to worry about.
