On the eve of the 2024–25 Premier League season, we asked 30 BBC television and radio experts to pick their top four and justify their selections.

Eleven of the 30 voted Arsenal as title winners.

Former Arsenal striker Theo Walcott: “This year is the best chance Arsenal have ever had. They have obviously strengthened their squad with the signing of Riccardo Calafiori, but they have also strengthened themselves mentally in terms of the robustness and preparation they go into the season with, because of the mistakes they have made in the past.

“I think Mikel Arteta could have learned a lot especially from playing away at City last season when Arsenal got a draw. Now every single point counts so he has to adapt and I feel they are ready to adapt to a different level this year and play against teams where they have to win.

“I think Mikel has learned from the last two seasons and this could well be his year.”

Former England international Sue Smith: “It’s so difficult to choose between Arsenal and Manchester City but I think Arsenal have another year of experience under their belt. Their young players have learned a lot over the last couple of seasons and they pushed City until the last matchday. They didn’t do much wrong last year and I think they can do it this time.

“The signings last summer were a success, with Declan Rice in particular being outstanding. David Raya and Kai Havertz had their doubters but showed how important they were.

“The signing of Riccardo Calafiori, who can also play as a left-back, will strengthen that position and secure the centre-back position. And the fact that Jurrien Timber is fit again will be like a new signing.”

Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman: “I’m betting on Arsenal to win the Premier League this season. They have been consistently good over the last few seasons and I expect that to continue. By strengthening the problem positions, the team has become even more balanced and I believe this could be their year.”
