Severe thunderstorms and disruption may occur in parts of Northern Ireland on Monday morning.

The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning which will last until 07:00 BST.

While not all areas will be affected, where thunderstorms occur, there could be frequent lightning, gusty winds and possibly heavy hail.

The narrow band of rain is forecast to move quickly eastwards and the worst of the weather will clear around breakfast on Monday.

Despite their short duration, the rains could be heavy, with some places receiving 20 to 40 mm of rain within an hour.

Some areas could see up to 60mm of rainfall before the rain stops.

Met Éireann also issued an orange overnight rain warning for counties Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo in the Republic of Ireland.

A separate yellow rain warning has also been issued for most of the country.

It will last until Monday, 8:00 a.m. Thunderstorms are expected overnight, moving eastward across the country.

The heavy rain could create dangerous driving conditions due to spray and sudden flooding.

The Met Office warns of a small chance of power outages and building damage from flooding, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

Some homes and businesses may be at risk of sudden flooding.
