It’s the last Tuesday of summer, but around here it already feels like autumn. The wind has picked up and the leaves are taking the cue and falling in droves before they’ve even changed color. Soon the aspen forests will be sparkling yellow and gold and white. I live very close to Lothlorien, you know:

There are few things more beautiful than an aspen forest in the fall. It is awe-inspiring and majestic and a little wistful. I am sure that fairies roamed this area long ago before humans came and drove them away.

Anyway, let’s solve this Wordle!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot. right here.

Today I got really lucky with my first guess. I don’t often choose words that start with the letter “B,” but for some reason today it blared trumpet-like and tinny in my brain as I sat down to do the Wordle. I thought BEAST was surely the right answer. Ironically, it might have been BEAUT.

Beauty and the Beast remains my absolute favorite Disney film. What a classic. No live-action adaptation can compete with it.

Competitive Wordle Score

Just like yesterday: I get 1 point for guessing in three sets, but Wordle Bot also guessed in three sets, so 0 points for the tie. 1 point is still good! Hooray for me!

How to play competitive Wordle

  • If you get a 1, guessing is worth 3 points, if you get a 2, guessing is worth 2 points, if you get a 3, guessing is worth 1 point, if you get a 4, guessing is worth 0 points, if you get a 5, guessing is worth -1 point, if you get a 6, guessing is worth -2 points and missing the Wordle is worth -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. If you draw, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add these points together to get your score. Keep a daily score or just play for a new score every day.
  • On Fridays you get 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running record or just play day by day. Have fun!

Today’s Wordle etymology

The word “nice” is a shortened or abbreviated form of the word “Beauty”. It originated in the late 19th century in Australian and New Zealand English, where it was used informally to describe something or someone as particularly excellent, wonderful, or impressive. Over time, it became a colloquial term meaning “a great example” or “something good.”
