Top 25 North Carolina High School Football Rankings (9/12/2024)

High school football in North Carolina is in full swing and so are our power rankings.

The No. 1 team in the Tar Heel State remains Weddington, followed by Grimsley and then Providence Day.

Here’s the complete breakdown of North Carolina’s elite high school football teams as we see them, ahead of Week 4 of the 2024 season.

Weddington Football

The Warriors put on another dominant performance last week, improving their season record to 3-0 with a 48-13 win over West Forsyth.

There aren’t many running backs in the Tar Heel State who are currently playing better than Mitchell Summers. The tailback has rushed for 420 yards and scored nine touchdowns.

The Chargers rebounded from their opening loss to Weddington and defeated Charlotte Catholic 24-9.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee

Eagles quarterback Gavin Owens has been accurate in four games. Owens completed 81 of 123 passes for 906 yards and six touchdowns.

Not many signal callers can boast the kind of stats Jackson Byrd has through three games. The senior has completed 49 of 79 passes for 768 yards and nine touchdowns.

Rolesville

The Rams made an impressive impression last week in a 52-0 win over East Wake and now they are preparing for a tough matchup with Cardinal Gibbons.

Ralph Trey Blakeney has played a big part in the Huskies playing well. The senior threw 829 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Another quarterback who played really well at North Carolina is Bryce Baker, who threw for 1,075 yards and 10 touchdowns with just one interception.

Another week and another big win for the Patriots, who picked up a clear 34-14 victory over Charlotte Christian.

Cardinal gibbons

Quarterback Gannon Jones showed a strong passing performance after a play in the Crusaders’ opening game, throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns.

We can’t downgrade Mallard Creek too much after its first loss of the season. A 28-14 loss in Week 3 to Grayson (Georgia) is a respectable defeat.

The Panthers’ defense was a real stumbling block for opposing quarterbacks, recording 14 sacks in the first three weeks.

Not many teams have run the ball as effectively as the Falcons this season. Seventy-First has totaled 528 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground so far.

The Red Tornadoes have completed two games and two wins without conceding a goal and have outscored their opponents 82-0.

Jariel Cobb has been the leader of the Rams offense so far this season, scoring 552 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Vikings started the season with a 35-32 loss to Cleveland and bounced back with a 48-14 win over Wallace Rose-Hill.

Jaylen Hewitt is one of the state’s leading passers with 715 yards, 10 touchdowns and no interceptions.

After a hard-fought win in Week 1 over TC Roberson, the Pioneers followed up with a 56-7 win over Avery County and a 24-13 win over Maiden.

Second-year quarterback Keenan Sullivan looked solid in three games for the Pirates, throwing for 231 yards and four touchdowns.

There are no “Blues” at the Asheville School, as they have played excellently to begin the season. The Blues have outscored their opponents 91-7 in two games.

It’s hard to downgrade a team too much after it suffered a 24-9 loss to Providence Day. It’s still in the top 25 this week.

Last week was a pretty tough game against #1 seed Weddington, which lost 48-13.

The Bulldogs outscored their opponents (129-21) in their first three games, winning against Concord, Hickory Ridge and West Cabarrus.

After wins over Burns and Shelby, the Chargers started 2-0, but their toughest test awaits them this week when they face Charlotte Catholic.

The Knights fell to last place in the standings after a 34-13 loss to Independence last week.
