Tragedy at Schiphol Airport: Person dies after falling into running aircraft engine

According to reports, a person died at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam when he fell into the running engine of an airplane.

Dutch media reported that the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon and reported a “massive deployment” of emergency services at the scene.

According to reports, passengers and crew were on board the plane, a KLM flight bound for Billund in Denmark – home of Legoland – when it happened.

A spokesman for the Dutch military, which oversees the airport, said: “All passengers and staff on the flight in question have disembarked and are being cared for.”

The spokesman said the military is investigating the cause of the incident. It is not clear whether the victim was traveling through the airport or working there.

The country’s labor inspectorate also investigated to determine whether it was an accident at work.

The case was also to be investigated by the Dutch Safety Board (OVV), which sent a team of investigators to the scene of the accident.

An airport spokesman said: “Today there was a horrific incident where a person ended up in an aircraft engine.

“Our condolences go out to the relatives and we are providing assistance to the passengers and colleagues who witnessed the incident.”

The airport, located about ten kilometers from the Dutch capital, is Europe’s third largest airport and counts almost 72 million passengers annually.

Opened over a century ago, it is the main hub for the Dutch national airline KLM.
