Train station is being redesigned by students and volunteers

High Wycombe train station is to be transformed by students and volunteers.

Chiltern Railways has announced a partnership with Buckinghamshire New University and Chiltern Rangers to improve the appearance of the station and make it more welcoming to the public.

Art and design students from the university will create artworks for the station bridge, while Chiltern Rangers will clear, plant and maintain the gardens at the station and around the Brunel building.

The aim of the initiative is to connect High Wycombe station with the town’s historic sites, improve biodiversity in the area and preserve the station’s heritage.

The partnership, which creates a new group of station users in High Wycombe, was funded by Chiltern Railways’ Community Investment Fund (CIF).

The CIF supports community projects that provide social, economic and environmental benefits.

Happiness Agbo, Regional Station Manager for South Buckinghamshire at Chiltern Railways, said: “The new partnership is vital to the enhancement of High Wycombe station and a milestone in the new improvements in the area that customers can benefit from.”

“I look forward to seeing how the station reflects the character and diversity of our local communities.”

Professor Nick Braisby, Vice-Chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University, said: “We are delighted to be working with Chiltern Railways and Chiltern Rangers to create a welcoming and culturally enriching place for our local community and visitors to the town.”

“BNU has a long and proud history in High Wycombe and we are delighted to see our talented students and the outstanding Chiltern Rangers team working together.”

John Shaw, Managing Director of Chiltern Rangers, welcomed the partnership.

He said: “We look forward to this partnership with Buckinghamshire New University and at least five other community organisations, making the rail gateway to our city more enjoyable for wildlife and visitors through improved gardens, new art and information on local events and activities.”
