Triple-digit heat in North Texas when the air conditioning isn’t running – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Triple-digit heat in North Texas when the air conditioning isn’t running – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

On Monday, the skies over North Texas were cloudless. The weather forecast for that day was that it would be the hottest day of the year, with temperatures rising above 100 degrees.

“Once you get used to it, it’s not so bad,” said Arnold Ngundo during a late morning run. “I still run, whether it’s raining, sunny, snowing or sleet, I still run.”

But some things don’t always work in this heat, like the air conditioning.

“I was on the phone with my mom and thought, what am I going to do? Suffer without air conditioning when it’s 105 degrees outside,” asked Karsyn Barnett.

Barnett is a first-time homeowner. Before she even unpacked her moving boxes, her air conditioner started leaking and she had a hard time finding an HVAC technician to fix it.

“Everyone is very busy because everyone’s air conditioning is out,” Barnett said. “This is my first home. I spent all my savings on this.”

Barnett found a compromise between not having air conditioning and paying for an expensive repair by renting an air conditioner for a few days.

“Almost all of our customers didn’t know they could rent an air conditioner before they called,” said Matthew Burton, founder and CEO of Rescue Cooling Rentals. “They think I either have to put my family and pets in a hotel or just sweat here and wait for the air conditioning technician to fix the problem.”

Burton said business at the company’s Grapevine warehouse is skyrocketing as temperatures rise.

“As you can see, our warehouse is pretty empty today,” said Burton. “That’s because of the temperatures we’re currently experiencing.”

Burton said employees have been working nearly around the clock to deliver rental air conditioners.

“The portable unit from Rescue (Cooling Rentals) kind of bought me … some time to make some more decisions, I guess,” Barnett said.
