Trulieve continues to pump millions into changing adult marijuana use

Really continues to invest money in the campaign to pass Amendment 3.

The medical marijuana company donated another $5 million to Smart & Safe Floridathe political committee that supports the initiative to legalize marijuana for recreational use.

With the latest donation, disclosed in a campaign finance report released Friday, Trulieve’s financial support over the past two years is just over $70 million.

Smart & Safe Florida has already spent millions on television and radio advertising and now has about $20.1 million left to spend on the fall election campaign after the August primaries.

In an election cycle in which Florida’s status as a swing state has declined significantly, the battle for Amendment 3 is likely to be the most expensive campaign in the November election.

So far, the presidential campaigns of Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump have not made any significant ad buys in the state. But AdImpact, an ad tracking service, found that the Trump campaign bought $48,000 worth of cable advertising time in the West Palm Beach market, which is also the region where Trump’s Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, is located.

Earlier this month, the billionaire CEO of Citadel Ken Griffin dropped 12 million dollars for a committee under the direction of the Governor. Ron DeSantis’ Mr Chief of Staff, James Uthmeierwhich launched an attempt to prevent Amendment 3. Keep Florida clean has not reported any significant contributions since then, but the next round of reports is due at the end of the week.

If approved by at least 60% of voters, Amendment 3 would allow adults in Florida to possess and use recreational marijuana. Voters approved an amendment legalizing medical marijuana in 2016.

Recent polls have shown the initiative hovering around the 60% threshold needed to win, meaning a strong campaign on both sides of the issue could be crucial to the outcome. The measure will split the ballot with Amendment 4which would guarantee access to abortion.

Amendment 3 is rejected by DeSantis and the Republican Party of FloridaBut the measure has Support from some Republicans, including Senator Joe Grutersthe former chairman of the state party who is a longtime Trump ally.
