Previously, an official of the Foreign Legion of Ukraine had described the alleged shooter’s actions. Ryan Wesley Routh Approaches to them as “delusions”.
A spokesman for the International Legion of Foreign Volunteers in Ukraine confirmed to Reuters that there were no formal ties to Routh. He said: “We would like to make it clear that Ryan Wesley Routh was never part of, associated with or connected in any capacity to the International Legion. Any claims or insinuations to the contrary are completely inaccurate.”
Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said the apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump by a vocal supporter of the Ukrainian cause shows that “playing with fire has consequences.”
When asked what he thought about the events on Sunday afternoon, Peskov replied: “It is not we who should think, but the US secret services. In any case, playing with fire has consequences.”
The arrested suspect, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, had been visiting Ukraine since the war began and trying to mobilize support in the West.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously said he was glad that Trump remained “safe and unharmed.”
Putin’s Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 after unilaterally annexing Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. This move is widely recognized by the international community as illegal.

Ric Bradshaw said a man was arrested after an apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump at his Florida golf course. Bradshaw said a man was about 400 to 500 yards away from Trump and hidden in the bushes – while the former president played golf on a nearby hole – and was carrying an AK rifle with a scope, two backpacks hanging from a fence and a GoPro camera.
The suspect was identified as Ryan Wesley Routh58 years old, a source with direct knowledge of the investigation told the Guardian. The same name has also been mentioned by other US media outlets such as the Associated Press, Fox News and CNN. Law enforcement authorities have neither officially named a suspect nor given any immediate indication of a motive.

Joe Biden released a statement Sunday evening expressing concern about the incident: “I have been briefed by my team on what federal law enforcement is investigating today as a possible assassination attempt against former President Trump. A suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and its law enforcement partners for their vigilance and efforts to protect the former President and those around him. I am relieved that the former President is unharmed. As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence, or violence of any kind, in our country.”
