Tui is cancelling several flights from Manchester Airport today

Tui has had to cancel several flights from Manchester Airport today, July 21, as the company continues to grapple with the impact of Friday’s global IT outage. Thousands of flights have been cancelled worldwide, with many more delayed as airports have had to handle check-in and boarding manually.

A total of 6,855 flights were cancelled worldwide on Friday, according to aviation data analyst Cirium, representing 6.2 percent of all scheduled flights. In the UK, 207 flights were cancelled – 6.7 percent of all scheduled flights. A further 201 flights were cancelled.

Images showed passengers queuing in the car park at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 3 on Friday. Although systems were back up and running later the same day, it continued to impact flight schedules.

The disruption coincided with the busiest travel weekend of the year so far, with many schools closing on Friday and thousands of families flying abroad for the start of the summer holidays.

Today, Tui announced it had had to cancel several flights from Manchester Airport as the impact of the outage continues to be felt. It said: “We regret to inform passengers that we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the flights listed below.”

All TUI flights from Manchester Airport cancelled today, Sunday 21 July

  • TOM2778 Manchester to Corfu

  • TOM2772 Manchester to Reus, Spain

  • TOM2754 Manchester to Lanzarote

  • TOM2700 Manchester to Larnaca, Cyprus

  • TOM114 Manchester to Montego Bay

In addition, Tui has cancelled flight TOM1730 from Belfast to Lanzarote and flight TOM6742 from Bournemouth to Menorca.

In a statement on its website, Tui said: “Due to the global IT issue at airports and airlines around the world on Friday, TUI’s overall service was severely impacted this weekend and we would like to apologise to everyone affected.”

“If you are travelling with us today, we ask for your patience and understanding. Customers should travel to the airport as normal unless contacted directly by TUI or your non-TUI airline. However, please plan ahead and expect longer wait times.”

The airline added that customers with cancelled flights have several options depending on whether the booking is flight-only or a package holiday. It said: “Customers who no longer wish to travel can cancel and receive a full refund of the cost of their holiday. They will also receive a TUI holiday voucher worth £200 per adult and £100 per child for a future holiday. Refunds will be processed within 14 days. Customers who have booked a flight-only flight with us will automatically receive a full refund within 14 days if they cancel that flight.”
