Twelve Baskets Food Pantry celebrates 10th anniversary with $520,000 capital campaign

Twelve Baskets Food Pantry celebrates 10th anniversary with 0,000 capital campaign

Since 2014, the Twelve Baskets Food Pantry has provided food, clothing and household items to hundreds of families in West Michigan.

To celebrate its 10-year anniversary and ensure it can continue to provide services to the community, the volunteer-run organization launched a fundraising campaign on Thursday.

With a goal of $520,000, the campaign aims to raise money for food-safe and legally compliant repairs and restorations at its Portage Road building, which also houses the Free Store and donation rooms, Twelve Baskets said in a campaign letter.

All repairs are required by the city of Portage and must be completed by Dec. 31, officials said.

“Like any capital campaign, we obviously need capital because we’re going to have some expenses here that we’re going to have to pay,” said Greg Goss, a volunteer with Twelve Baskets. “But we’re also looking for contractors who are willing to either volunteer their time at a reduced rate or donate their time. This morning, a contractor called me and graciously agreed to donate time and materials.”

The organization currently serves over 350 families each week in Portage, Schoolcraft, Vicksburg and Three Rivers.

Community members who wish to donate to Twelve Baskets’ capital campaign can do so online.
