Two audition shows, two famous actors come to Ann Arbor for Michigan-Texas

ANN ARBOR – Two well-known actors are coming to Ann Arbor on Saturday to attend the Top 10 college football game between the Michigan Wolverines and the Texas Longhorns.

Matthew McConaughey will appear on FOX’s pregame show “Big Noon Kickoff,” while Will Ferrell will appear on ESPN’s “College GameDay.” Both shows will air live from the Michigan campus, and fans are welcome to visit the sets.

GameDay is making its 16th appearance in Ann Arbor, having made 40 appearances at Michigan games since its first broadcast on campus late in the 1993 season. Host Rece Davis is joined by analysts Desmond Howard (Michigan’s 1991 Heisman Trophy winner), Lee Corso, Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit and Pat McAfee.

Corso famously ends each show by dressing in the uniform of the school he predicts will win the game. A celebrity guest usually predicts the outcome of various games; on Saturday, that will be 28-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps. Ferrell, a USC fan and comedian known from SNL and the films “Anchorman,” “Talladega Nights” and “Old School,” will also appear on set, along with Michigan men’s basketball coach Dusty May.

GameDay goes on the air at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday, broadcasting from Ferry Field, located on State Street and surrounded by Michigan’s baseball, softball, hockey and volleyball/wrestling/gymnastics fields and arenas.

Just before 11 a.m., the broadcast will move to Michigan Stadium for its final hour before the highly anticipated matchup between third-seeded Texas and 10th-seeded Michigan. FOX will begin its game broadcast at noon, with kickoff scheduled for 12:10 p.m.

Big Noon Kickoff will air on the same schedule as GameDay, but FOX’s broadcast will take place on the Pioneer High School field, across the street from the Big House. Rob Stone will host along with a panel of analysts that includes Michigan’s 1997 Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson, former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and former quarterbacks Matt Leinart and Brady Quinn.

Since its premiere in 2019, the show has been seen at Ohio State’s last three games as well as two other Michigan home games in Ann Arbor.

A “pregame tailgate” party will be held starting at 7:30 a.m. The show has announced several guests for Saturday, including Baseball Hall of Fame member Derek Jeter, who will serve as Michigan’s honorary captain during the game; Cooper Manning, the father of Texans backup quarterback Arch; and former Michigan basketball star Chris Webber. Rapper Moneybagg Yo will perform during the show.

McConaughey will also be on set. The actor, Texan and Texas University graduate is known for his roles in the films “Dallas Buyers Club,” for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, “Interstellar” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” McConaughey is a proud Longhorn who calls himself the university’s “minister of culture.”

Michigan and Texas are meeting for only the second time ever and for the first time in the regular season. Both won their season openers last Saturday. The Wolverines are ranked 10th nationally, the Longhorns are ranked 3rd.
