FORT WALTON BEACH — Two businesses in and around Fort Walton Beach have announced they will close permanently next month. Here’s what you need to know:

Rick is on the island

In a Facebook post, Rick’s on the Island announced that it would close on Labor Day due to a non-renewal of its lease.

But they won’t go quietly, as Rick’s has announced all-day, daily pizza and beer specials through Labor Day. Guests visiting Rick’s can enjoy a large two-topping pizza for $12 to eat in or take out, plus there will be $3 draft beer and $2 canned beer.

As for the current staff at Rick’s on the Island, sister restaurant Rick’s Crab Trap on Eglin Parkway will “adopt” them and bring weekly entertainment to the eatery, which will also be open seven days a week.

“From all of us at Rick’s on the Island, thank you for being a part of our journey,” they said on Facebook. “We’ll see you on the other side of the bridge and are so grateful for all the wonderful moments we’ve shared together.”

Rick’s on the Island is located at 1318 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, Okaloosa Island.

The Sound Café + Enlightened Studios

Also announcing their final call is The Sound Café + Enlightened Studios in downtown Fort Walton Beach.

Unlike the other cafes in Fort Walton Beach, the Sound Café was the only cafe that stayed open until midnight and frequently hosted live music performances and open mic nights. It also once hosted the Daily News Concert Series.

“We have brought together many strangers who are now friends. And most importantly, together you and I have made a significant impact on an entire community,” Sound Cafe wrote on Facebook.

The company, located at 142 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, Fort Walton Beach, announced that September 22 will be its last day of business.
