UConn’s home opener against Merrimack brings improvements and adjustments to Rentschler Field

EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – It is now less than a day until UConn’s first home game against Merrimack.

The new season also brings some process adjustments and improvements to the area around Rentschler Feld.

From the outside, a new landscape can be seen. Inside, the field is in perfect condition.

The parking and tailgating rules are similar to last season. Stadium management wants to offer fans an authentic experience again.

“We are obviously listening to what UConn has to say from ticket holders. We take everything we hear and make adjustments, and we will continue to do so,” said Ben Weiss, general manager of the Oakville Group.

Gates open at 8:00 a.m., four hours before kickoff, for those who have a special UConn Park or Tailgating Pass from the school.

Entry to the general public will be possible from 9:00 a.m. Even though the number of traffic cones will be reduced, this will not affect the efficiency of traffic patterns.

“Traffic patterns in and out of the area will remain largely the same. We have established a police presence around the building and hopefully put traffic lights at the entrance and exit of the building,” Weiss continued.

As in previous years, grilling with charcoal and open fires is not permitted. However, propane grills are allowed.

Tailgating can happen in any parking lot and there are also new dumpsters everywhere. Officials are asking everyone to clean up their trash and keep the place spotless.

The route into the stadium will also be similar to years past. While you leave your goodies outside for tailgating, the concession stand will be filled with many great vendors.

One of them is Boston’s favorite David Littlefield, whose nickname is “Sausage Guy.”

“You can always expect great food here. We’re in two locations at the stadium and we have three sausages. Hot sausages, insanely hot sausages. We do a steak bomb that’s pretty famous and phenomenal,” he said.

When the game is over and fans stream toward the exits, there will be a simple two-way system.

The authorities are expecting around 20,000 spectators, so we recommend that you secure a place quickly.
