UNC football program allows 70 points in a miserable loss to JMU

What have we all just had to witness…

JMU. 50. 441. Final. 70. 2364

Yes, the above result is correct (and no, it’s not a basketball result — heck, our basketball team wouldn’t lose to JMU by 20.)

Mack Brown and the UNC football program delivered one of the most embarrassing performances in school history when they allowed 70 points to James Madison on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill. They were lucky the Dukes slowed down because they were on pace to score over 100 points by halftime.

Although the first three wins of the season highlighted some major issues for this team, virtually all of the wins came on Saturday afternoons. That’s a testament not only to the strong schedule the Tar Heels faced early on, but also to the team’s inability to be ready to play on game day.

If you ignore the fourth quarter of the NC Central game, you could say the same thing about this game.

UNC’s football program allowed JMU to do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted: block punts, convert two-point conversions, throw the ball down the field (or basically wherever they wanted).

Of course, you can’t necessarily put all the blame on Jacolby Criswell, who threw for 475 yards, as he was essentially forced to play catch-up the entire game, but it’s quite obvious that the UNC football program’s problems start at the top.

The defense is still awful, the special teams are still awful, and no matter what you think of the coaching staff, they have been unable to fix these problems for several years. At some point, you have to stop changing coordinators and realize that it might be time for a change at the top.

After a performance like that, I wouldn’t be surprised if the UNC football program doesn’t win another game all season, that’s how pathetic that performance was.
