I love it when restaurants stand out by being different. There are the usual restaurants that have great food and I will always appreciate those, but the ones that stand out from the crowd and are a little bit different, I appreciate ten times more.

When I saw that Love Food had put out a list of the most unusual restaurants in each state, I tried to imagine what the Connecticut restaurant might be before I actually saw it. I thought it would be Cava in Southington because of all the decor. I guess it’s not really unusual, it’s more just different, but that was the first thing that came to mind.

This got me thinking: What is the most unusual restaurant in Connecticut? When I looked it up, I was so excited. I had never heard of this place. I’m not sure if it’s because I live in a secluded area or if it’s not very well known around here, but this sounds like the perfect place for me. As an avid book lover, I’m pretty excited.

The most unusual restaurant in Connecticut is the Traveler Restaurant in Union, CT. I was really excited by the blurb. Apparently you eat surrounded by bookshelves full of paperbacks. You also get to take a book home with you after your meal. What?? Why didn’t I know about this?

This is seriously such a cute idea and now I have to go. They also have an extensive menu. There is a separate breakfast menu with omelets, mains and breakfast sandwiches and wraps. Their regular menu has everything from salads, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, mains, etc. Rumor has it that their desserts are to die for too.

Okay, now that I know it exists, I’m going to go. If you’re in the mood for a fun breakfast or dinner with books, you can find them at 1257 Buckley Highway I-84, Union, CT. It looks like they’re closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but are open until 8am all other days of the week.
