University of Texas unveils new stadium dining offering for SEC debut

A new conference and a new partnership: The University of Texas at Austin is introducing its new food and beverage offerings to be sold at DKR Memorial Stadium during its debut season in the NCAA Southeastern Conference.

At the Frank Denius Family Hall of Fame on Tuesday, some lucky Longhorns fans got a taste of new menu items for the University of Texas’ upcoming home games.

“The food is amazing,” said Amrit Babu, who came with his wife. “Like the beef brisket? I’m so glad I didn’t eat anything before I came here.”

Hand-breaded chicken tenders, barbecue paella and barbecue pulled pork sandwiches, to name a few, are all part of a new partnership with Sodexo, a foodservice company that is also working with the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

“This is the big show now, right?” said chef Mark Krystopa. “So we have to compete with other stadiums.”

Krystopa said 26,000 pounds of brisket are expected to be prepared at each home game and dozens of additional digital takeout ordering devices will be introduced to help get fans back in their seats faster.

“We’re really trying to bring a lot of fresh, local flavors to our menu and reinvent stadium food,” Krystopa said.

James Powers, vice president of operations, says joining the SEC comes with a lot of pressure off the field as well.

“Bring your family to a game and have a perfect experience. You’ll get the best we have to offer while our team shows you the best they have to offer,” Powers said.

But even if they can’t control what happens on the field, they can influence the fan experience, and that’s all that matters, according to season ticket holder Rachel Thornton.

“Texas is always number one for me,” Thornton said. “What we have to offer on game day is so important, so I’m really excited to see what people think when they come to Austin.”
